Younger Kids and Beginners
My mission is crystal clear: ensure that kids and beginners learn and have a blast doing it. Recognizing the pitfalls of being overly strict and demanding flawlessness, I aim to ensure students stay in the game. I organize small group sessions for the youngest kids, blending instruction with entertaining games. When focusing on technique, the emphasis is on the fundamentals: grip, setup, and stance; this is so that these essentials become as natural as riding a bicycle.
How I Work with the Families
of Junior Players
Recognizing the vital role families play, I make a concerted effort to understand their vision, wants, and needs. Establishing clear communication is essential in setting realistic goals. I emphasize that golf is a challenging game, not as easy as it may seem, and encourage ideal, customized practice habits and tournament preparation routines in which parents can actively participate.
Older Students –
Beginners, Mid-handicappers, and Ladies
The journey begins with a thorough assessment of physique and flexibility for older students, including beginners, mid-handicappers, and ladies' groups. The goal is to ensure injuries don't hinder progress, necessitating adjustments to set up and swing as needed. Drawing in natural athletes from other sports, like baseball players, we work on adapting their existing skills to the golf swing, enhancing matchups of the body, arms, and hands.
In Ladies Golf Clinics, the focus is keeping the learning environment fun and entertaining while learning about the game. Techniques range from impact back to a full backswing, emphasizing the feel of good impact over refining the swing. From short punch shots to the proper approach angles, we cover various aspects using feedback from the impact bag. Of course, putting and shots around the green are integral components of our sessions.
For mid-handicapper students, identifying and improving obstacles to lower scores takes center stage. Mental toughness is reinforced to reduce penalty strokes, and strategies are employed to enhance fairway and green hits. Addressing common swing flaws becomes pivotal in minimizing slices and fat shots.
Elite Junior Players, Including International Players in Development
Teaching a diverse group of local and international junior players on the path to Division I NCAA collegiate golf is a privilege. My focus with junior players, often characterized by big, effortless swings, revolves around understanding their preferred ball flight. Developing a reliable fade emerges as a game-changer, and practical on-course experiences become crucial. Juniors are guided through pressure situations, course management, and strategic play to refine their skills.
